Still Playing at the Top: Europe's Most-Capped Internationals Right Now

Most players' international careers wind down well before their club careers do. A handful of veterans currently turning out in Club2Club's six leagues have kept both going deep into their thirties, and their numbers are worth putting in context.

Luka Modrić leads the way by some distance. Now at AC Milan, the Croatian midfielder has 202 caps for his country — more than anyone else currently playing for a club in these six leagues — built across three World Cup semi-final or better runs and a Ballon d'Or in 2018. Few active players anywhere in the world can match that combination of longevity and peak achievement.

Right behind him are Alexis Sánchez, who has earned 168 caps for Chile while at Sevilla, and Robert Lewandowski, who has 167 caps and 89 goals for Poland while leading the line at Barcelona. That 89-goal tally is the second-highest international scoring record of anyone currently playing in our database.

The single highest belongs to Romelu Lukaku, whose 93 goals for Belgium — scored while at Napoli — edge out both Lewandowski and Harry Kane, who has 85 for England while at Bayern Munich. Between them, Modrić, Sánchez, Lewandowski, Lukaku, and Kane represent five different countries' record books, all still active in the same six leagues Club2Club tracks.

These totals only reflect what's recorded on each player's profile, not a running live count, but they're a real snapshot of just how much international pedigree is still on the pitch every weekend. You can look up any player's full club and international record using the Players tab.
